Deliberate Divarication

By Ronnie Wilson

Now that Sports & More is on-line, it can be read by anybody who has access to the internet.  Upon realizing this, it occurred to me that family and friends from allover the United States could view the accomplishments of those appearing in SAM.  What I did not consider was that anyone on the earth with access to the internet could do the same.
I subscribe to a software package that provides a plethora of information concerning the accessing of SAM on-line.  One of the options is a list of all of the countries of origin of those who visit SAM.  The countries from which people have visited SAM are: United States, Unknown, Canada, France, Japan, Australia, Netherlands, Poland, Cambodia, and Spain
The United Stated makes up more than 99% of those accesses and Hendricks County accounts for 99% of those accesses, but I still find it interesting that SAM is viewed world wide.  (What is most intriguing in the above list is, What/Where is the “Unknown” country?)

Last week’s schedule was a bit light during the week.  ISTEP testing was in progress and the sports schedule was accordingly light; then came Saturday.  Saturday’s schedule included just two events; county volleyball tourney and girls golf sectional.
All six county school wee participating in both events and the venues were at opposite corners of the county.  This was going to be fun.
The day began with me driving to Cascade for the first two volleyball games scheduled to begin at 9 AM.  The host school, Cascade, was using two gyms for the preliminary rounds.  I spent some time in both gyms to gets several shots of those games.  I wanted to be out to there by 9:30 so I could drive to West Chase in Brownsburg to shoot members of the Avon golf team teeing-off at 10:00.  I arrived at West Chase to find the golfers I needed to cover for Avon would not tee-off until well after 10.  I stayed and shot them until 11:30.  I now had to hustle back to Cascade to get the two semi-final games which began at noon.  Fortunately, just prior to my departure, I saw Jeff Brown.  Jeff is a regular contributor to Sports & More (SAM).  My bad hip was already beginning to give me quite a bit of trouble, so I asked Jeff he would shoot several of the Hendricks County golfers and send photos to me for publication in today’s issue.  He said he would.
I scurried back to Cascade.  I arrived just after the start of both noon games.  I decided to shoot the Plainfield v Tri-West contest first, knowing the Avon Brownsburg match would be intense, as Avon had beaten Brownsburg earlier in the week and the Lady Dogs were wanting to even the score.  Brownsburg came out strong and won the first game 25 – 17.  Avon regrouped and won the next two games to advance to the championship against Plainfield.  Plainfield was taken to three games by Tri-West.
Since Jeff was covering the golf sectional for me I stayed at Cascade to shoot the volleyball final which began at 2:00PM.
It was a wise decision for me to have Jeff cover the golf as the semi-final of the volleyball tourney did not conclude until just after 1:00.  There would have been no way for me to drive back to West Chase, take a few shots and return to Cascade for the finals.  Actually, there was not enough time for me to just make the round trip in the available time.
To bring this to a conclusion, I only put about 100 miles on my Jeep to cover two events on Saturday.
Thank Jeff.
